‘Were I a King’ is a programme that asks the audience to question what it means to be a monarch. Starting with Kim Porter's commission, ‘Were I a King,’ the following pieces build up a vivid picture of the traditional values of the monarch (eg. divine power). At the end of the programme this idea is turned on its head with a piece called ‘On Monsieur's Departure’ by Piers Connor Kennedy.
