Title
THE MOZARTISTS
Opera 1775

As part of the MOZART 250 project, this concert will feature works by a number of composers -
several unknown to modern audiences - written or premiered in 1775. Through his painstaking
research, our Artistic Director/Conductor Ian Page is unearthing manuscripts of fascinating
works. Alongside highlights from Mozart’s Il re pastore, the concert will include rarely heard excerpts from J. C. Bach’s Lucio Silla, Haydn’s L’incontro improvviso and a selection of highlights from a short-list of operas by Fischietti, Linley, Mysliveček, Paisiello, Sacchini, Salieri and others.
Most of these works carry significant musical and historical interest, with some, not having been heard for over two centuries. For example, Fischietti was the senior court composer in Salzburg when Mozart lived there, and his opera commemorates the visit of Empress Maria Theresia’s son,
Archduke Maximilian Franz. The score was considered lost until a copy was rediscovered in 1974 with the Salzburg Mozarteum only making this score available on their website a few months ago.
