In Gibbons’ 400th anniversary year, we are planning to return to Conwy Classical Music Festival (July) specifically with a Gibbons programme, and in particular one that gives an approachable overview of his work for an audience not especially used to early music. We’re developing this programme with soprano Gwendolen Martin and tenor David de Winter, and also taking it to two other venues, in Chester (July) and Banbury (September). It includes instrumental gems, vocal pieces ranging from some of the more lighthearted madrigals about contentment through a few that muse on the transitory nature of life, and then also featuring some highlights from Gibbons’ extraordinary output of sacred pieces.
